TAMS command line processor
These programs basically do just the data extraction part of the
analysis process. They are basically command line programs, though the
macintosh version has a slightly gui front end for picking the files.
The output is basically a tab delimited file that can be subjected to
detailed analysis using a spreadsheet or database program. I use
macintosh as my basic platform and before using TAMSAnalyzer I used
Nisus for the coding. See below for the macro file
(Note that these are relatively generic c++/c files and should be
**relatively** easy to port.)
(For search engines: qualitative, textual, ethnographic software,
ethnography software, qualitative research software)
Nisus is a word processor with remarkable search and replace as well as
macro facilities. They do have an older version available for free
download, so if your doing research on a budget like I am, this fits
right in. However, though they really do keep improving the product
(yup, I've supported them, since for many tasks it's a remarkable tool
tool, e.g., for the initial coding of the repeat codes I used Nisus til
switching to OSX) To use this macro keep one file with all your codes:
one code per line. So the file might look like:
love
love>romance
love>physical
love>spiritual
To code a passage, first select the passage, select the code by double
clicking, and then run the macro. In Nisus it is easy to assign keys to
macros (in the preferences, I think) so I just select and and hit a
function key.
